For generations, Dicksons Pork Butchers has been satisfying the demanding tastes of the North East, and it is still owned and managed by the family who founded it back in 1953. The business was founded by Irwin and Helen Dickson who put all their capital into opening their first shop in the ‘Nook’ in South Shields.
Tastes have changed over the years and some products once sold in high quantities such as pig trotters, pigs cheek and tripe have long gone from the displays, whilst other traditional foods such as black and white pudding and pease pudding have enjoyed something of a revival.
One item that remains unique to the Dicksons empire is the beech-smoked saveloy which can be eaten however you choose, but to enjoy the legendary Saveloy Dip it needs to be served hot in one of their fresh baps with pease pudding, sage and onion stuffing and a generous dollop of English mustard.
We’re proud of our north eastern heritage and for over six decades have been passionate about creating our own selection of the finest quality products. Since 1953, each Dicksons’ recipe has carried our unique signature style – attention to detail, a respect for tradition and a taste for the new.
Over three generations our business has grown to more than 30 shops and we’re now the region’s largest family owned provider of meat and food products.

Our own recipe pastry is made fresh each day by our bakers. Select cuts of meat chosen by our butchery team for our pie fillings and sausages is carefully inspected each day. Select ingredients for our pease pudding and sandwich fillings chosen by our buying team. All our products are blended with our own seasonings following recipes used in the business for nearly 70 years Each product carries our unique signature style delivering our own finest quality traditional products.
