Organic Aubergines × 2
This relentlessly versatile veg (actually it’s a fruit – a berry to be exact) can be grilled, roasted, burned, steamed, stuffed and fried; and used in everything from croquettes to curries, to salads and soups. (Aubergines are grown in the UK during summer – outside these months they are sourced from organic farms in Europe)
The Aubergine is known and used in many countries around the world, and has many names including: ‘Brinjal’, ‘Eggplant’ and ‘Guinea Squash’. The Chinese first cultivated the plant in the fifth century BC, but it has also been grown in India for centuries. Moorish invaders introduced them to Spain, and this was likely the first introduction to Europe. Nowadays they are an essential in the British kitchen, as well as many Northern European countries. Aubergines need long, hot summers to grow at their best, so are ideally suited to Spanish growing conditions, and we are delighted to find such a great supplier.
